Two Bend Bay

Measuring a two corner bay window for a curtain pole.

3 sided bay window curtain pole

This page gives information primarily on how to measure up for a 3 sided bay window curtain pole. Curtain poles for these two cornered bays will have two internal bends not including any return bends outside the bay. Sometimes these bays are known as a box or square bay window if the internal angles are at 90 degrees. Quite often though, the side walls and windows of this type of bay are splayed, typically at or around 45 degrees. In practice, these internal angles and wall lengths aren’t always actually equal, even though they may look it. It’s for this reason that it’s important to measure carefully so that we can get the best fit for your curtain pole. This, with the 5 sided bay window, is the most common type of bay pole we make.

If required, specify the distance you’d like the finial from the end of the bay.

For French Bay Window Poles, the bracket plates are the “finials”. Once you’ve measured your bay window, let us know where you’d like the bracket plates located as these should not be on the bay corners but an inch or two away.

Measuring guidance…

Take the measurements along the walls where the pole is to be fixed. Include the full length of each wall section (even for ceiling fix poles). We will work out the pole position allowing for bracket projection/offsets from these measurements.
•If necessary state the distance you’d like between the wall and the pole. The defaults are 45mm (16mm pole) and 50mm (25mm pole). For ceiling fixes, you can specify the distance between the pole and the ceiling that you’d like.
•Let us know where you’d like the finials to end (usually this is at the mouth of the bay). The poles can have return bends too. These extend the pole along the walls outside of the bay.
Measure in millimetres as errors can accumulate. Please don’t assume opposites are equal as they quite often aren’t. Please don’t round up measurements to nearest 0 or 5.
•Use a  metal tape measure, held taut for straight lengths.

We can make a pole fit with remarkably little space for brackets but please let us know if there are any potential issues.

Remember to take time to provide careful and accurate measurements. The better the measurements, the better the pole will fit!

NOTE: It’ll make life much easier if someone can give you a hand, especially for the diagonals!

There’s plenty of extra information on the website regarding finials, finishes, prices, etc. Just let us know if you have any questions and we’ll be happy to help.

Design Drawing.

We always create a drawing from the measurements you supply. This makes sure the measurements tally and shows how the pole will locate in the bay. This gives you the chance to check all is as it should be before any making of the pole.

How much will it cost?

There’s a price calculator which will give you a good idea of the cost.
