A little description…

This is a common shape and we’ve made many poles in various sizes for 5 sided Bay window curtain poles. These bays will have 4 corners or bends often at 45 degrees or thereabouts. As with all bay windows, it’s important not to assume that they are perfectly symetrical when measuring. This is because they usually aren’t, despite appearances. The page is mainly to give specific guidance for measuring 5 sided bay poles. You’ll find the options for finials, pole diameters, finishes, prices and other details if you browse the website.

Some considerations…

There are some quite common situations we encounter when making poles for this window layout. For example, sometimes the wall sections at the mouth of the bay are quite short. This reduces the available space, due to the pole offset, for the finial brackets beyond the bend radius. Or perhaps parts of the bay may be recessed; we can advise regarding any issues.

The finial can be further back inside the bay.

If required, specify the distance you’d like the finial from the end of the bay.

For French Bay Window Poles, the bracket plates are the “finials”. Once measured , let us know where you’d like the bracket plates to be located. These should not be on the bay corners.

Measuring tips…

Take the measurements along the walls where the pole brackets are to fix. Include the full length of each wall section. This also applies to ceiling fix poles. We will allow for the bracket projection.
If necessary state the distance you’d like between the wall and the pole. The default for a 16mm diameter pole is 45mm. For a 25mm diameter pole, the default is 50mm.
If necessary state where you’d like the finial to end. This is usually the mouth of the bay except for French poles. The poles can have return bends too.
Please Measure in Millimetres.
Use a  metal tape measure, held taut for straight lengths.

Please take time to provide careful and accurate measurements. The better the measurements, the better the pole will fit!

And finally…

You’ll need someone to give you a hand, especially for the diagonals. We can make a pole to fit, even where there’s little space for brackets. Just let us know if there are any potential issues. Get in touch for any advice and we’ll be happy to help.
