Portiere rods

A portiere rod allows a curtain to be placed over a door or over the doorless entrance to a room. Without any need to launch in to flowery waffle, portieres are a good economical and ecological way to keep your house warm by covering the door thus insulating it from cold and draughts.

Portiere rods (also known as Drapery Arms or Swinging Curtain Poles) are basically versatile curtain poles on hinges. The portiere rod hinge can be fitted on the same wall as the door ( Face fixed ) or on a return wall ( side wall perpendicular to the door wall ). If the hinge is fixed on the same side as the door hinge, the curtain will open with the door. The curtain be drawn or stack out the way just as on a normal curtain pole.

How to measure

Just give us the required length of the portiere arm from the back of the 16mm pivot to the end of the finial ( any length up to 1.2 m ). If you intend to fix to the return wall the hinge plate will add 5mm to the overall length.

The Button finial is 6mm long.

The Stopper finial is 18mm long

The Plain Ball finial is 40mm long

The Hinge Plate is 200mm long x 40mm wide x 5mm thick

Remember to allow for the width of the hinge plate when fixing on the door wall. The hinge plate is 40mm wide so the inside edge of the plate will be 28mm approx from the outside of the 16mm pivot.

Dormer rods

Thes are slimmed down versions of portieres but made for windows. They can be made from 12mm diameter bar if required.
